The ice pick sound comes from a lack of eddy currents, and a resulting high Q factor at the pickup's resonance. The combination of eddy currents and low inductance makes for a pickup with a high resonant peak, lots of treble, but with a flat-ish subtle roll-off, so that the treble is not "ice pick". In the Filter's, eddy currents are caused by the large screws, in Lipsticks, it's the brass enclosure. I've heard "jangle" used to describe several different sound profiles, but pickups like Lipstick tube pickups and Gretsch Filter'trons have a combination of low inductance and eddy currents. I'm not sure how to display the frequency response on pickups to see the frequency curve profile, what can I use to see and display the frequency curve profile of a guitar pickup? I'm not sure what the resonant peak frequency for regular stock strat pickups areĭanelectro Lipstick pickups use a Alnico 6 magnet DC resistance is 4.3K, henrys not sure ofįender Tex Mex pickups use Alnico 5 magnets DC resistance 6.4K to 7.4K, henrys 2.7H t 3.7Hįender Mustang pickups used a "top enclosure plate" that sat on top of the pickup pole pieces which I'm not sure if it changes the frequency response or magnetic field of the pickupsįender Jaguar pickups use a Claw mounting Plate which it changes the frequency Response ad Magnetic Field of the pickups.
